Mounting The Air speaks to the processes of a traditional taxidermic mount. This has been read as moving the skin. Here the arrangement of skin is determined by air.
A mechanical interpretation of inhalation and exhalation are depicted in the spaces of Arcade. Photographic and sculptural mediums reflect an exploration of boundaries and containment. The works address different aspects of physical labour associated with the hand made.
An archive of air is contained within a hand knitted biomorphic formation. The air filled tumescence cushions the space in between the glass frontage and rear of the vitrine.
In the adjacent window a hand screen print on fabric derived from the photograph Finding My Voice (2016) portrays an absence of air. The image captures a vacuum storage bag in a moment of suction compared with the voluminous inflation via an electric air pump of air cushion packaging in the neighbouring space.
