The landscape is full of abstract shapes; plenty that we overlook because what we see is trees, grass, cars, buildings - things. But the things we recognise, if deconstructed, are ultimately composed of abstract structures. Cluster brings the landscape indoors and uses it only for its abstract forms and colour. The lyrical forms of the natural environment are echoed in gestural brush strokes in paint. When made, they require the movement of the whole body, the extension of limbs and reach. The forms and route of the brush are based on the impulsive movements of the artist’s body and respond to the landscape, making a cluster of natural and painted abstraction.
