'Heuristic' is an ongoing exploration into the experience of an unknowable space that the subject automatically attempts to control and understand.
Through multiple and contradictory spatial passages, the paintings harness abstractions ability to echo the familiar while remaining ambiguous. It is this space, between the familiar and the strange, and the viewer’s heuristic reflex in this space, which is of particular interest.
Ellie Chalmers-Robinson's practice is grounded in painting, employing an instinctual and intuitive process. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at The Victorian College of the Arts in 2015.
