Cantlon's body of work features images of totemic figures set within a dystopian landscape, printed from 35 mm analogue film.
Installed as a diptych, the works engage with the concept of experiencing a diminishing interconnection with nature and the destructive attempt to supersede this connection.
The dust on the film negatives is integral to the work, proposing a contemplation on the artificiality and distance we might experience in relation to nature.
The process-based materiality of the photographic prints further points towards a problematised relationship between nature and man-made materials. Cantlon's photographic prints leave us with a positive copy of a negative copy, of a facsimile of nature.
