Family Portrait is a work that investigates complexities involved in externalising feelings of love and pride between two subjects for the camera. These concepts are explored through video works as two quintessential family portrait moments.

In Living Room, poses are struck and the dynamics of power, status and partnership are subtly negotiated. Front Porch takes place at the threshold of public/private space. Instead of well-crafted family portraits, the works reveal the messiness of rehearsal and relation.

Family Portrait considers what is desired when we attempt to perform and preserve an authentic rendering of a ‘between us’ for the lens.

Sarah Rudledge and Helen Pallikaros are Melbourne based artists working on an ongoing collaborative project titled Lampheads. Both artists have completed a Masters in Contemporary Art at the VCA and also exhibit independently.
