TAPE showcases contemporary international and Australian artists who have adopted the myriad of tapes now available in their painting process. Some artists utilize the possibilities of ‘accident and control’ and the fusion of ‘concept and execution’ through the use of tape, while others consciously adopt a more impersonal ‘hard edge’ approach to paint application, using tape to achieve clean and sharp edges in their work. Tape itself also is used in some of the work: as an integral formal element, to achieve a hard edge aesthetic, or as a rejection of sleek minimalist forms.
